چکیده
This study was aimed at providing an assessment on farm diversity conservation status and the characterization of sorghum landraces to document landrace, characterize variety assess how farmers in area practices seed management system indigenous landrace farming community. Eighty House hold from eight kebeles four woredas eastern Hararghe zone were chosen reviewed. Structured questionnaire survey households, focused group discussions, key informant interviews field observations used collect data. The main traits use prefer a given over other maturity, yield potential, animal feed, grain size, color, tillering capacity, market demand. With look upon distribution category, most recorded endangered rare. Farmers different locations have reported several be endangered. Most rare which is near threatened indicating need for landraces. On-farm can remain workable, depending sensitivity factors causes varieties become extinct their capacity develop adapt these factors. It provide options community that lost. Therefore, attention should farmers’ involving participation very important order knowledge on-farm strategies sustainable use. More agricultural research conducted characters requirement crops various regions environments conserve variety.

Inheritance of Resistance to Sorghum Shoot Fly, Atherigona soccata in Sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench
Sorghum production is affected by a wide array of biotic constraints, of which sorghum shoot fly, Atherigona soccata is the most important pest, which severely damages the sorghum crop during the seedling stage. Host plant resistance is one of the major components to control sorghum shoot fly, A. soccata. To understand the nature of gene action for inheritance of shoot fly resistance, we evalua...
متن کاملEffect of temperature on seed setting behaviour in rabi sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L). Moench)
Pollen viability is an important parameter of yield as for as interaction of temperature with seed setting is concerned. Rabi sorghum is one of the major cereal crops after rice, wheat and maize. In sorghum seed setting is affected when the flowering period coincides with minimum temperature. In this context comparison was made with pollen fertility percentage and seed setting percentage vs min...
متن کاملB-Glucans in the Caryopsis of Sorghum Bicolor (L.) Moench
Fluorescence microscopy was used to determine the l ocation of Bglucans in sorghum. Sections from three genetically different sorghum cultivars were st ained with Calcofluor or Congo Red , fluorochromes which have been reported to react with 13-glucans. Autofluorescence, indicative of ferulic acid in other cereals, was observed in untreated sections. When stained sections were treated with endo...
